Women's Volleyball at the 2016 Summer Olympics
An Overview
The women's volleyball tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics was the 14th edition of the event at an Olympic Games, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB). The tournament was held from August 6 to 21, 2016, at the Maracanãzinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Tournament Format
The tournament featured 12 teams, which were divided into two pools of six teams each. The top four teams from each pool advanced to the quarterfinals, where they were seeded according to their final standing in the pool play. The winners of the quarterfinals advanced to the semifinals, and the winners of the semifinals advanced to the gold medal match. The losers of the semifinals played in the bronze medal match.
